"We gather here today, May 12, 2024, to celebrate the rich history, vibrant community, and the enduring legacy of our Mt Bethel United Methodist Church. For though this chapter in the life of Mt. Bethel is over, its spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all who have been touched by its light. As we close this chapter, we reflect with great gratitude on the journey that has brought us to this moment.
Mt Bethel began this journey in 1960 as a mission of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. From humble beginnings, the congregation flourished, holding its first service at the Old Salem Historic Shrine before moving to this location in December of the same year.
Over the decades, Mt Bethel grew in both membership and mission. From the addition of the Sunday school classrooms in 1983 to the construction of a sanctuary and basement classrooms in 2004, the church continually adapted to meet the needs of its community. This commitment to serving others remained a cornerstone of Mt Bethel's identity throughout our existence.
Because of our rich music history you will notice a musical theme through out…. Our ministry has been a symphony of service, from the early days as a Daycare provider to the partnerships forged with Neighbors, Inc. Also, through many many events such as; the Roast Beef dinners, highway pick ups, Gertens flower fundraisers, Power Prayers, the Xcel concession crew, Spirit Band, Retreats, IGH Days parade, Church Camp sponsorships, Retiree’s Clean Team, Thursday coffee fellowship, Back to School Backpack distribution, Bible Studies, Book Studies, Night to Unite, Trunk or Treat, Mahjong + Hand & Foot and helping at Hilltop Elementary. Mt Bethel has been a chorus of compassion in our community.
Additionally, Our youth have added their own vibrant melodies to Mt Bethel: gathering for Sunday school and lock-ins, retreats, and mission trips, McPrayer, Christmas program productions and service projects that have shaped their faith in the 34 confirmation classes of 260 confirmands. We are reminded, not only of the countless confirmation classes but of the many pastoral appointments, and moments of profound spiritual growth that have taken place within and outside of these walls. We also recall the joyous music that has filled this church, lifting our spirits and drawing us closer to God. And we also remember the many selfless acts of service that have defined this congregation.
As we look to the future, we take comfort in knowing that prayers are answered and that the spirit of Mt. Bethel will continue to shine brightly in its new home. Faith United Methodist Church will become the custodian of this sacred space, ensuring that it remains a place of worship, fellowship, and service for generations to come. With God, we made this possible!!
So let us celebrate the life of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church with joy and thanksgiving. Let us lift our voices in song, remembering the hymns that have echoed through this building praising God for the blessings we have received.

Sunday (May 12, 2924) we will gather in a sacred space that has been a beacon of faith and love for so many years, we will come together not to mourn, but to celebrate. For though the physical doors of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church may be closing, its spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all who have been touched by its light.
Mt. Bethel began its journey in 1960 as a humble mission, born out of a deep commitment to the Great Commission laid out by our Savior. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20). Over the years, this church has been a place of worship, fellowship, and service, touching countless lives and weaving itself into the fabric of our community.
As we reflect on the rich tapestry of memories that Mt. Bethel has given us, we are reminded of the countless confirmation classes, pastoral appointments, and moments of profound spiritual growth that have taken place within these walls. We recall the joyous music that has filled our worship space, lifting our spirits and drawing us closer to God. And we remember the selfless acts of service that have defined this congregation, from providing daycare to partnering with our neighbors to offer support in times of crisis.
Through every challenge and triumph, Mt. Bethel has remained steadfast in its mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. It has been a beacon of hope, a refuge in times of trouble, and a source of strength for all who have walked through its doors.
And now, as we prepare to say goodbye to this beloved church, we do so with hearts full of gratitude and love. We give thanks for the countless blessings that Mt. Bethel has bestowed upon us, and we commit to carrying its legacy forward in our lives and in our community.
As we look to the future, we take comfort in knowing prayers are answered and the spirit of Mt. Bethel will continue to shine brightly in its new home. Thank you for paying 100 percent apportionments in 2023! The River Valley District increased its payment last year by 9.5%, bringing it to lead the Conference at an 85.2% rate. Appointment giving is a powerful way for us to work together across Minnesota to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
In a world that is sowing division in ever newer ways, our common work builds a bridge across those divides. As Greater Minnesota and urban churches, with centrist, progressive, and traditional theologies, as small and large congregations our connection is a witness that the body of Christ can still make a difference. United, we support ministry by resourcing churches and clergy through things such as the Fresh Expressions initiative, support and continuing education opportunities for clergy, Conference wide work on anti-racism, as well as the ways Conference staff, including your Superintendent, works with you.
Your congregation joins 50 others in the River Valley District in paying apportionments in full. Thank you for your steadfast faithfulness to our common ministry. I have included a Certificate of Appreciation to honor your commitment.

As of April 3, 2024 the building loan at Mt Bethel Church was Paid in Full.
Funds were taken from the Parsonage fund and from the General Ministry Fund to accomplish the final payment.
Thank you all for your ongoing generosity in accomplishing the building of our addition, the care of the structure and now the payoff of our financial obligations.

History of a Cairn in Hiking, also known as an Ebenezer stone.Humans have been using cairns - Ebenezer as trail markers for thousands of years. You will often find Cairns in open areas, above the treeline where trail signs may not be easy to spot. Cairns play a vital role in keeping hikers safe and on the right trail. In remote or mountainous areas, it’s easy to get lost, and cairns can function as a guide, showing the way back to the start of the trail or indicating the right path to follow.
️ The word cairn originates from the Scottish Gaelic word “carn,” which means heap of rocks. Cairns date back to ancient times, with the first documented use of a cairn being in Scotland over 4000 years ago. At that time, people built cairns to mark important landmarks such as mountain summits or grave sites.
Over time, cairns have evolved into being used more as a navigational aid for travelers in rugged terrain. Now, with the aid of technology and global positioning systems, cairns hold their significance in helping hikers avoid getting lost.
Cairns also serve as a reminder to hikers that they are not alone and that others have trod the path before them.
Cairns have also become a way to connect with those who have hiked the same trails, bridging the gap between one hiker and the other.

We are actively participating in “neighbors helping neighbors” for Neighbors, Inc. food shelf for the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign to help feed our neighbors in need.

Feb 18, 2024: Two Burnsville police officers and a Fire Department paramedic were shot and killed at a home early Sunday morning after an hourslong standoff following a domestic abuse call. One officer was wounded; Police Sgt. Adam Medlicott. 7 children in the home are safe.

Shop with RaiseRight The life of the Raise Right program (formerly Shop with Scrip) that has been in operation since 2013 is now coming to a close. Thank you all for your participation in this fundraiser.
Over the years, this program has earned in excess of $20,000 for Mt Bethel Church. 50% went to the General Ministry Fund and 50% to the Endowment Fund.
