In honor of Mount Bethel Church’s mission of loving God, serving others, and doing no harm, the Mount Bethel Church Legacy Scholarship Fund has been created in partnership with the IGH BEST Foundation that awards post-secondary scholarships to Simley graduates.

Scholarship Narrative: Mount Bethel Church was established in 1960 on the corner of 70th Street and Carmen Avenue in Inver Grove Heights. In 2024, the church members passed on their legacy by donating the church facility to Faith Church.
The Mount Bethel Legacy Scholarship recognizes a Simley senior who exemplifies the spirit of Mount Bethel Church by outwardly utilizing their talents in and out of the classroom. The ideal candidate will have a GPA of 2.0 or better and be active in a Christian religious organization. Participation in Simley’s co-curricular activities; community engagement; employment; volunteer/services; and economic need will be other considerations. Click here to Donate

"We gather here today, May 12, 2024, to celebrate the rich history, vibrant community, and the enduring legacy of our Mt Bethel United Methodist Church. For though this chapter in the life of Mt. Bethel is over, its spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all who have been touched by its light. As we close this chapter, we reflect with great gratitude on the journey that has brought us to this moment.
Mt Bethel began this journey in 1960 as a mission of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. From humble beginnings, the congregation flourished, holding its first service at the Old Salem Historic Shrine before moving to this location in December of the same year.
Over the decades, Mt Bethel grew in both membership and mission. From the addition of the Sunday school classrooms in 1983 to the construction of a sanctuary and basement classrooms in 2004, the church continually adapted to meet the needs of its community. This commitment to serving others remained a cornerstone of Mt Bethel's identity throughout our existence.
Because of our rich music history you will notice a musical theme through out…. Our ministry has been a symphony of service, from the early days as a Daycare provider to the partnerships forged with Neighbors, Inc. Also, through many many events such as; the Roast Beef dinners, highway pick ups, Gertens flower fundraisers, Power Prayers, the Xcel concession crew, Spirit Band, Retreats, IGH Days parade, Church Camp sponsorships, Retiree’s Clean Team, Thursday coffee fellowship, Back to School Backpack distribution, Bible Studies, Book Studies, Night to Unite, Trunk or Treat, Mahjong + Hand & Foot and helping at Hilltop Elementary. Mt Bethel has been a chorus of compassion in our community.
Additionally, Our youth have added their own vibrant melodies to Mt Bethel: gathering for Sunday school and lock-ins, retreats, and mission trips, McPrayer, Christmas program productions and service projects that have shaped their faith in the 34 confirmation classes of 260 confirmands. We are reminded, not only of the countless confirmation classes but of the many pastoral appointments, and moments of profound spiritual growth that have taken place within and outside of these walls. We also recall the joyous music that has filled this church, lifting our spirits and drawing us closer to God. And we also remember the many selfless acts of service that have defined this congregation.
As we look to the future, we take comfort in knowing that prayers are answered and that the spirit of Mt. Bethel will continue to shine brightly in its new home. Faith United Methodist Church will become the custodian of this sacred space, ensuring that it remains a place of worship, fellowship, and service for generations to come. With God, we made this possible!!
So let us celebrate the life of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church with joy and thanksgiving. Let us lift our voices in song, remembering the hymns that have echoed through this building praising God for the blessings we have received.
Let us hold-fast to the memories and the friendships that have been forged within this place, knowing that though this chapter may be closing, the story of Mt. Bethel will live on forever in our hearts.
In the timeless strains of "It is Well with My Soul," we find comfort and assurance as we bid farewell: "When peace like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul."
May this assurance carry us through the transitions ahead, knowing that the melody of God's love will continue to guide us on our journey.

📝 Checks: If you have been giving via check, please continue to make them out to Mt Bethel until Sunday, May 12th. On May 19th, our membership will transfer to Faith United Methodist, so then, your checks should be made out to Faith Church. If you forget and make the check to Mt Bethel, don't worry! We will endorse the back for deposit by Faith Church.
💻 Online Payment: For those using online checking, please update your Bill Pay to Faith United Methodist Church. No need to change the mailing address (3239 70th Street, IGH, MN). If you need assistance with your user ID/password, your bank can help.
💰 Qualified Charitable Distribution: If you have set up scheduled distributions from your Traditional IRA, contact your financial advisor to switch disbursements to Faith Church. July 2022, Mt Bethel Church voted to change its ministry into a Legacy Ministry. Since then, we have been sharing our stories together. Through the sharing of stories, we have been thinking about who we are, our faith (discipleship), and what our legacy can be. So far, Darlene, Stephanie, Deb, Thelma, Polly, Judy, Barb, and Ardi have shared their wonderful faith stories and Mt. Bethel’s various ministries.
If you want to share stories... please contact Interim Pastor Hannah Choi. Our transitional time is not easy, but let us do this together in harmony, humility, and love. So that we can leave our wonderful legacies in a blessed way. Our Legacy will be remembered, transformed, and multiplied. |
