We of Mt Bethel Church join many other Minnesota United Methodists and are participating in a 2021 MN conference-wide Lenten video study. This year’s study features the Appointive Cabinet members from the Minnesota Conference and focus on the book “Love is the Way: Holding on to Hope in Troubling Times,” by Bishop Michael Curry. The “neighbors helping neighbors” philosophy has been at the heart of Neighbors, Inc. since the beginning. The Commission on the General Conference for The United Methodist Church has released a statement announcing its decision to further postpone the 2020 General Conference given that the trajectory of the coronavirus pandemic. General Conference is now scheduled for August 29-September 6, 2022 in Minneapolis. Read more here...

While it's not an easy topic to consider, it is important for every adult to have a Health Care Directive - a written plan for loved ones and health care providers to follow - so that your wishes are known if a time comes when you cannot speak for yourself.

Did you know .... that if you are 72 years old, you are required to take money from your Traditional IRA. You can do it as a Qualified Disbursement to Mt Bethel Church. If funds are sent directly from the financial institution to Mt Bethel Church, it becomes tax-exempt. One of our givers recently said they saved several hundred dollars on their tax bill. Example. If you take out $1000, minus tax, you may get ~$800 in your checking account. If you take out $1000, tax exempt, and have it sent to Mt Bethel Church, it will be $1000. It’s a good way to optimize your funds and meet your planned Church giving. This can be done monthly, quarterly or yearly. Talk to your financial advisor. Edward Jones told our FInance Chair “It’s usually a good deal for you, it’s never worse.”

- Funds must come from a tax deferred retirement account, i.e. traditional IRA, 401k, 403b, 457 plans. Roth IRA’s are not eligible.
- Your gift must go directly to the charity ~ Mt Bethel Church. You cannot receive the cash first.
- The maximum contribution is $100,000.
- The Qualified Charitable Distribution can be activated year around (monthly, quarterly or yearly) and can be deactivated by the donor if circumstances change.
