I am writing to inform you, as the Chair of the Mt Bethel SPRC Ministry Team, that I will be going through several invasive skin treatments in 2020.
I have had a low form of skin cancer (basal cell) on 6 different occasions over the last 20 years. However, I DO NOT have skin cancer at this point and my life is in NO danger! That being said, my dermatologist is recommending that I go through two to three sessions of the Blue Light Skin Treatment. It is identical to the treatment that member Paul W has gone through in recent years.
My first treatment is on Tuesday, January 14. I will need to be out of the sunlight for several days and the skin on my face basically falls off. I would like to use the week of January 14-22 as a week of vacation. I will miss worship on Sunday, January 19. I will make arrangements for a UMC Elder/speaker to come to Mt Bethel for Sunday worship. I will be in and out of the office the week of January 20-23 and should have no problems preparing the worship and being at church to lead worship on Sunday, January 26. My second Blue Light Skin Treatment is on Tuesday, February 11. Once again I will use one of my vacation weeks to be out of the office February 11-19. I will not be at the Mt Bethel worship service on Sunday, February 16 but will get a UMC Elder/Speaker to preach that day. I will be back at Mt Bethel on Sunday, February 23 and fully able to lead the Ash Wednesday worship service on February 26.
Also, I plan to take time off from Forge on January 15 and February 12 as vacation time. If my face is sufficiently recovered I will be at Forge on January 22 and February 19. If not…I will also take those dates off.
My doctor has not scheduled the third Blue Light Skin Treatment as yet. He wants to wait to see how my face and skin responds to the first two treatments.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and please pass this information onto the SPPR Ministry Team and to the AD Board.
I will miss the Ad Board meeting on Wednesday, January 15, but I will plan to be at the February 19 if my face is sufficiently recovered from the treatment.
In Christ,
Pastor David Johnston
